Abney Athletic Center

Built in 1978 and dedicated on November 16, 1979, the Abney Athletic Center was named after the Abney Foundation, whose monetary support helped erect the building, and in honor of John R. Fulp.

When the building was first built, it was the home to volleyball, men's and women's basketball and wrestling. One of the balconies above the gym floor also served as the free fitness facility for students, while the other side of the balcony featured an indoor hitting cage for softball and baseball.

With the improvements to campus, and the movement of softball to the Athletic Campus, the Abney Athletic Center now serves as the main administration building for the athletics department, housing the athletic director, compliance, and academic services. It remains the home to the volleyball, and men's and women's basketball teams, including locker room facilities. One balcony is now used for accessible seating and to house the broadcast team during events, while the other balcony serves at the home for the Trojan Athletic Fund hospitality suite, open during every home contest to TAF members.
