Trojans Earn Top-Seed in the NCAA Tournament and will Host Southeast Regional Play

INDIANAPOLIS – After winning both the South Atlantic Conference regular season and SAC Tournament title for the second time within the same season, Anderson University women's basketball team has earned the top-seed and will square off with No. 8 seed Barton out of Conference Carolinas on Friday, announced by the committee on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m.

The Trojans received the highest seed of any South Atlantic Conference team in the region, as AU is one of three teams from the SAC to earn a bid. In addition to Anderson, it is joined by third-seeded Wingate and fourth-seeded Carson Newman.

Anderson and Barton will meet for the first time since 2010 when the Trojans were in their final year as a Conference Carolina member. The Bulldogs (14-11) hold a slight edge in the overall series that dates back to 1999.

Every game of the Southeast Regional will be played at Abney Athletic Center, as the Trojans claimed the No. 1 seed after boasting a 29-2 overall record which includes the Black and Gold riding a 27 game-win streak.

Peach Belt Conference champion North Georgia earned the No. 2 seed, while PBC rivals Lander and Clayton State took the No. 5 seed and No. 6 seed respectively. CC member Emmanuel earned the No. 7 seed as an at-large bid after winning the CC Conference Tournament.

Anderson seeks its first win in the NCAA Tournament since 2016 when it defeated Clayton State in the opening round, as it looks to improve on its 9-12 all-time record in the annual tourney. Overall, the berth into the NCAA Tournament is the thirteenth trip in program history.
