Anderson, S.C.- Despite a 2 hour rain/lighting delay and a 10 day span of no games, Anderson University softball shook the rust off to pick up a doubleheader sweep over nonconference opponent Chowan winning game 1, 10-4, and winning the nightcap, 9-1(5innings) on Friday evening at the AU Softball Complex
Anderson moves to 12-6 overall while the Hawks fall to 1-13 overall.
Game 1- Anderson 10 Chowan 4
Chowan jumped out to a 3-0 lead following a three-run homerun in the top of the first inning. Anderson answered back in its bottom half of the inning scoring three runs to knot the game up at three apiece.
Anderson outscored the Hawks 7-1 over the final five and half innings to claim the 10-4 victory.
Sophomore Harlie Duncan (7-2) picked up her seventh win of the season giving up six hits while striking out five.
- Anderson outhit Chowan 12-6.
- The Hawks had four miscues.
- The Black and Gold left seven runners on base.
- Three of Chowan's six hits were for extra bases.
Game Two- Anderson 9 Chowan 1 (5 innings)
After giving up a solo shot in the second inning to fall behind 1-0, the Trojans exploded for nine unanswered runs to end the game in 5 innings.
Sophomore Kayla Pepper (5-4) shook off the early homerun giving up just three hits while striking out four.
- The Trojans outhit the Hawks 9-3.
- Chowan's three hits in the game were two doubles and a homerun.
Anderson will remain at home to host nonconference opponent Southern Wesleyan on Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 3 pm.
