Softball Picked to Finish Fifth in SAC Preseason Poll; Hagerty and Majeski Earn Preseason Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Anderson softball team has been picked to finish fifth, as the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Preseason Poll was released by the league office Wednesday morning.

In addition, senior Breanna Hagerty earned preseason All-SAC second-team honors while junior Meghan Majeski garnered preseason All-SAC first-team honors.

Hagerty batted .331 over the 2018 season with 10 home runs, five doubles and one triple. The strong-armed third baseman started all 46 games for the Trojans. Hagerty tallied 131 chances committing just seven errors at the hot-corner.

Majeski made starts in all 46 games during the 2018 season posting a final batting average of .392. Majeski was second on the team in runs scored with 34 while ranking third in on base percentage. The speedster from Simpsonville, S.C. swiped a team-high 24 bases. Majeski ranks second all-time in career stolen bases at Anderson with 50 to her credit.

The Trojans finished the 2018 season 32-16 overall and 11-9 in SAC play finishing tied for 3rd in regular season play.

Lenoir-Rhyne (110 points), last year's regular season champion was voted as the preseason favorite while Coker (91 points) was selected second. Carson-Newman (87 points) was slotted third.

Wingate (83 points) was picked fourth receiving on first place vote, followed by Anderson (75 points) in the fifth slot. Queens (69 points) was picked sixth just below Anderson. Newberry and Lincoln Memorial occupied the seventh and eighth spots, respectively. Catawba, Tusculum and Mars Hill rounded out the poll.

Anderson opens the season on the road on Feb. 2 at the Flagler Tournament. The Trojans open their home slate on Feb. 6 versus North Greenville. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 5 p.m.
