Carpenter, Castleberry and Miller Earn Postseason Baseball Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C. – On the eve of the 2018 Pilot/Flying J South Atlantic Conference Baseball Championship, a trio of Anderson players have earned All-South Atlantic Conference honors, as announced by the league office, Tuesday afternoon.

Carpenter, a sophomore, was named to the All-SAC Second Team after leading the team and ranking fourth in the conference with 52 RBI and standing 18th in the SAC with a team-high .348 batting average. The Charlotte, N.C., native also ranks 18th in the league with a .567 slugging percentage and posted a 10-game hitting streak from late March through early April, while leading the team with 19 multiple-hit games.

Castleberry becomes the first Trojan to earn SAC Freshman of the Year accolades since AU joined the league in 2011, while batting .288 and starting all 48 games for the Black and Gold. A native of Waxhaw, N.C, Castleberry is third in the league with 53 RBI and is tied for fourth in the league with 15 home runs on the season. He also ranks fifth in the SAC with 34 walks and 15th with a .599 slugging percentage. Castleberry boasted a 10-game hitting streak and reached base safely during a 21-game stretch during the season.

Miller captured Honorable Mention All-SAC recognition for the second straight season after notching a .344 batting average and ranking ninth in the conference with 65 hits. The T.L. Hanna High School product recorded 11 doubles and is 16th in the SAC with a team-high nine stolen bases on the season and has yet to be thrown out on the base paths. Miller is riding an 11-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in 41 straight games. He also earned All-Defensive Team honors for his stellar defensive play at shortstop.

Following tonight's regular-season finale versus Erskine, the eighth-seeded Trojans are scheduled to open the conference tournament by squaring off against No. 5 seeded Lenoir-Rhyne, Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

The four-day championship will be played at Smokies Stadium in Kodak, Tenn. Thursday's games will be single elimination, while the double-elimination portion of the Championship will be played Friday - Monday.
