Wolves Move into First on Day Two of SAC Women's Golf Championship
SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – Newberry improved 13 strokes from day one to day two of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Women’s Golf Championship to leapfrog Tusculum atop the leaderboard.
The Wolves were bolstered by four players who shot sub-80 rounds. Newberry was led by Eline Askeland, the tournament’s individual leader, who followed a 75 (+3) from day one with a 78 (+6) on day two. The Wolves’ Natalia Perez had the top round of the afternoon with a 77 (+5), improving 10 strokes from day one to day two. Perez is tied for 12th with first team all-SAC performer Lisa Brindl. Julia Daneshfar is tied for eighth after at 78 (+6) in round two.
Tusculum dropped back to second on the leaderboard, six back of the Wolves. Jillian Corum, day one’s leader, is tied for third after an 82 (+10) that began inauspiciously with a triple bogey on the first hole. However, Corum recovered with a birdie on three. She leads three Tusculum golfers in the top ten.
Lincoln Memorial pulls into third place thanks to Whitney Ball. Ball, who is tied with Askeland for the lead after rounds, matched Perez’s 77 for the best mark of the round. Ball is nine-over for the championship. Desta Coaker follows closely behind in a tie for third following an 80 (+8) for round two. She’s three back of the leaders.
Carson-Newman landed in fourth after Meridith Hawkins and Danielle Baiunco shot twin 79s (+7) to become the only teammates outside of Newberry to shoot below 80 for the second round. The Eagles improved three strokes from day one to day two with a 328 – identical to Tusculum and LMU’s second round totals. Hawkins has sixth place to herself and is five back of the leaders.
Wingate is in fifth and 10 behind C-N. The Bulldogs are led by Johanna Neumann. Neumann is 19-over for the tournament, but shot an 83 (+11) for round two.

First-Team All-SAC Selections Power Pioneers to Day One Lead at SAC Women's Golf Championship
Sevierville, Tenn. – First-Team All-South Atlantic Conference selection Jillian Corum fired a two-over 74 to guide Tusculum to a three-stroke lead over Lincoln Memorial at the Food Lion SAC Championship on Sunday.
Corum was consistent throughout the day, paring 14 holes on the 5,817-yard, par-72 Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Club. Sara Howard and SAC women’s golfer of the year Emee Herbert took sixth and seventh, respectively, after a 78 (+6) and 79 (+7).
Tusculum was one of two teams with three individual finishers inside the top 10. The other was LMU. The Railsplitters were led by Desta Coaker and Whitney Ball, both of whom went four-over with twin 76s to tie for third in the opening round. Brittany McCown followed with an eight-over, 80 to tie for ninth. Coaker dropped in the lone eagle of the day for the women. It took Coaker three strokes to finish off the 432-yard, par five, third hole.
Newberry rounded out the top three with a team score of 324. The Wolves are six strokes back of LMU after a cluttered opening round. Newberry saw All-SAC second-teamer Eline Askeland snatch second place on the leaderboard with a 75 (+3). Askeland’s round was bolstered by three birdies.
Carson-Newman took fourth after day one. Meridith Hawkins posted three birdies to match Askeland and finish in a tie for seventh with a 79 (+7). The Eagles shot a 333 as a team, nine back of the Wolves.
Wingate rounds out the top five with Johanna Neumann’s 80 (+8) the best tally on the team. The Bulldogs trail Carson-Newman by seven strokes. Catawba, Anderson, Mars Hill and Brevard round out the order of places for round one. Read more.
