Miller was hired as an assistant baseball coach at Anderson in June, 1990. He served as captain of the baseball team in 1986 and 1987, and in 1987, he was selected as an infielder for the All-Region X team.
After graduating from Anderson, Miller played baseball (third base) at Newberry College in 1988 and 1989 and was a member of the Indians' District VI Championship team in 1989. Miller was named to the NAIA Academic All-American team following that season.
At the conclusion of his career, Miller earned his masters degree in physical education from Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C.
Miller served as an assistant coach under Beville from 1990-1993 and was named associate head coach in 1994.
Beville was named the Director of Athletics in 1996 and Miller was elevated to the position of head coach and has amassed nearly 400 victories during his tenure at the helm of the Trojans’ program.
Miller is the son of the late Clyde Miller, who collected more than 800 victories during a distinguished career as a collegiate baseball coach.
Joe and his wife Laurie live in Anderson and have two sons, Tyler and Jake.
