The AU volleyball team is in the midst of a weeklong mission trip to Costa Rica that began early last Tuesday morning.
The Trojans are in Central America Tuesday for their second visit in four years and are competing against schools and various club teams, while also visiting orphanages and schools to share their Christian testimony during volleyball clinics for local teams.
Here is the team’s update from the fourth day …
“Today was another incredible day in Costa Rica. We started the day off with a bright and sunny day and headed off for a little more souvenir shopping and then headed off to play a younger club team from Tibas. The team did a great job of working on exploring offensive options as we battled a younger squad. We beat Tibas the first three games and then lost one when I experimented with an alternate lineup. We played one final set and defeated them, 25-4.
The most important victory though, came after our match. Makaela McCatha shared an emotional testimony about her family and her struggles with her faith preceeding her family trials. Following Makaela’s testimony, Salvador shared the Gospel and several of the players on the other team indicated that they committed their life to Christ. One of the players ran up to Makaela afterwards and asked her how she dealt with her struggles with her faith and how she rebounded. Makaela then prayed with the young lady and gave her a big hug.
After a quick lunch, we headed to one of the poor areas of San Jose called Los Gidos. There Salvador had a kid’s ministry and we spent some time singing praise songs, playing games, and sharing a message with the young kids. It was incredible having a time of worship with the children and this was truly one of the highlights of our trip.
After returning to the Villa, and eating a lasagne dinner, we had a time of worship and devotion with the Score missionaries. We were challenged to take Matthew 28: 18-20 to task and to always be on mission as we were called to “go”. I am truly excited to see the team take this challenge as individuals and as a team.”
