The AU volleyball team is in the midst of a weeklong mission trip to Costa Rica.
The Trojans arrived in Central America Tuesday for their second visit in four years and are tentatively scheduled to play five or six matches against the Costa Rican Junior National team and various club teams, while also visiting orphanages and schools to share their Christian testimony during volleyball clinics for local teams.
Here is the team’s update from the second day …
“Today we had another great day. After breakfast we headed to a public elementary school in San Jose and did a volleyball clinic with about 75 kindergartners. We performed the clinic on a beautiful new soccer field built for the school. We were a little under-resourced as we tried to teach 75 kids without a net and with only 10 volleyballs. However, the team did a great job as we broke up into four groups so that we could do a better job of giving the kids as much attention and repetitions as we could. We made a lot of new friends and the school allowed us to come into the school, share a testimony, and then one of our translators shared the Gospel to the children. Then the school did a really nice thing for us as they fed us a nice snack. They were very thankful that we came and invested time into their students.
Later today we headed to UNED, a Costa Rican College, and competed against a level one team (the highest in Costa Rica). The team did a great job of competing as we defeated the team in four sets. Afterwards, Hailey Pittman shared her testimony to the UNED team.”
