ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University, along with the University of South Carolina, led the Palmetto State in the number of student-athletes earning Capital One Academic All-District ® honors during the 2013-14 academic year, as nine Trojan athletes captured academic all-district accolades.
Anderson and USC paced the 18 NCAA Division I and Division II institutions in South Carolina that earned an all-district honor, as the Trojans and Gamecocks combined to tally 18 of the 69 all-district accolades garnered by in-state schools. The AU softball team saw three players named academic all-district, while the men’s soccer program followed with two honorees, with baseball, men’s basketball, men’s cross country and volleyball collecting one apiece.
Since the 2009-10 campaigns, Trojan student-athletes have accumulated 19 CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, with three honorees moving on to earn a first -, second- and third-team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.
The teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
The Capital One Division II and III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures, to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2013-14 DII and DIII Academic All-America® teams program.
