ANDERSON, S.C. – Snapping a two-match winning streak with a 6-3 setback to nonconference opponent GRU Augusta on March 21, Anderson University women’s tennis returns to action on Monday when it welcomes South Atlantic Conference rival Lincoln Memorial to Max Grubbs Memorial Courts. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Trojans
After senior Avery Owens and junior Karen Ching posted an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 doubles position, Ching and freshman Rebecca Bruning added to Anderson’s total with singles wins, but no other Trojan found a victory, as the visitors dropped to 4-5 on the season. In the SAC standings, the Trojans sit alone in fifth place, two matches behind conference leaders Wingate (5-0) and Tusculum (4-0).

With Ching’s 2-0 afternoon against the Jaguars, the junior improved to 6-3 in singles for the year, while winning three of her last four with Owens in the doubles round. Ching and Bruning currently hold the best singles marks on the team, as Bruning is currently 7-1 at the No. 3 position for the year, with her lone loss coming in three sets.

With her loss at No. 2 singles against GRU Augusta, Owens snapped a five-match winning streak, falling in straight sets to Roberta Oliveira. For the year, Owens, who was named to the first team singles squad, is 5-4, but 4-0 in SAC matches.

The Lady Railsplitters
With a match pending against SAC opponent Catawba on Sunday, Lincoln Memorial is 5-4 on the season with an even 2-2 mark in conference play. On March 18, the Lady Railsplitters snapped a three-match winning streak when they suffered a 5-2 setback to Newberry, after claiming wins over Lenoir-Rhyne, Bellarmine and Coker.

Elena Vasilyeva, who is projected to play at the No. 1 spot, has won her last four matches and is currently 8-3 on the season. Teaming up with Gemma Goodland, the duo is an impressive 10-1 and on a matching four-match winning streak. The doubles team lone loss came against Tusculum’s Kate Hutchinson and Kealee Heffner on March 1.

Goodland, who plays at the No. 2 position, is 6-2 on the year, but suffered a setback in her last match to Newberry’s Romina Adum. Goodlan holds three wins against conference opponents, headlined by a three-set victory over TC’s Erin Mills.

The Series
Anderson captured both meetings between the teams a year ago, headlined by a 5-0 win in the opening round of the SAC Tournament. Since AU joined the SAC prior to the 2011 season, the Trojans have dropped just one match to LMU which was on March 7, 2011.
