CLEVELAND – After closing the 2014 season with his second consecutive trip to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, sophomore Zak Hale was named to the 2013-14 Division II All-Academic First Team, selected by Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
A pre-engineering major, Hale carries a 3.20 GPA and was one of 47 wrestlers throughout the country to be honored on the first team, while 134 other student-athletes were named to the second team and honorable mention list. Despite a quick exit if the NCAA Tournament, Hale closed the year with a team-high 21 victories with six wins by fall.
In order for a student-athlete to be nominated to the Division II All-Academic Team, he needed to have a minimum 3.00 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale. He must also be in at least his second full year at his school, be a varsity member on his team or a key reserve, demonstrate a degree of skill and have a minimum of two letters of recommendation (academic advisor and coach) submitted on his behalf.
