ANDERSON, S.C. – Baseball senior catcher Jonathan Zalud and softball senior shortstop Abby Child have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of February.
For the month of February, Zalud hit .419 with five doubles, six RBI and scored eight runs. In a span of back-to-back non-conference showdowns with archrival Erskine and in-state rival North Greenville, Zalud was a combined 7-for-7 with three runs scored, five RBI and five doubles. Following the 22-12 win over NGU, the senior was hitting .444 for the season.
Currently, the native of Sarasota, Fla. is leading the team with a .395 average to go along with six doubles, six RBI and nine runs. Zalud also carries a .442 on-base percentage with a .553 slugging percentage.
Child is second in the South Atlantic Conference with her .479 batting average and leads the league with 23 runs scored on the season and is tied for first with six home runs. The native of LaGrange, Ga. is currently riding a three-game hitting streak after reaching safely in nine straight earlier in the month. During a seven-game stretch, she blasted five round-trippers and leads the conference in on-base percentage (.612), slugging percentage (1.000) and walks (18).
With 23 RBI, Child is second in the league, while ranking third in doubles (7) and fourth in total hits (23).
