ANDERSON, S.C. – Women’s basketball junior sharpshooter Lesley Woods and wrestling’s sophomore Zak Hale have been selected to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for the their performances for the month of January.
Woods capped off the month of January averaging 12.3 points per game, which led the team for the month. Woods knocked down 27 3-pointers in eight contests, as the Raleigh, N.C. native averaged 40.9 percent from the behind the arc. The junior highlighted her month with six 3-pointers in a 74-61 victory over Queens on Jan. 25 at the Abney Athletic Center.
Currently, Woods ranks first in the conference and 17th nationally in 3-pointers made per contest (2.85) and fourth in the league in 3-point shooting percentage (39.3).
Hale, a sophomore from Shaftsbury, Vt., went 9-1 in his 10 bouts for the month of January. In his nine victories, Hale posted four pins, three decisions and a major decision and was responsible for 43 points in 10 duals. For his efforts, Hale was ranked as high as fourth in the region at 133 in the Basford Rankings.
The sophomore looks to return to the NCAA Division II Championships for the second straight season as he currently leads the team in victories.
