ANDERSON, S.C. – After falling just short of earning a berth into the South Atlantic Conference Tournament in 2013, Anderson University women’s soccer has released its 2014 spring schedule, capped off by the second annual Alumni Game on April 12.
The Trojans open their spring slate with a trip to Southern Wesleyan on March 19th at 7 p.m. The Warriors struggled in 2013, finishing the year with a 3-13-1 record, but claimed a 3-1 win over Division II opponent Erskine early on in the season.
Following the trip to Central, AU hits the road once again to Spartanburg for a round-robin tournament with Division I opponent USC Upstate and Spartanburg Methodist on March 22. Upstate is coming off a 4-11-3 record in 2013, but captured a key Atlantic Sun victory over Jacksonville, 1-0, on Oct. 18. SMC closed the fall season with an 11-5-3 overall record, highlighted by a five-match winning streak to begin the season, outscoring its opponents 26-1 in the span. The Pioneers closed the year falling on penalty kicks to Louisburg in the NJCAA Region X Tournament semifinals.
On March 29, the Trojans will take part in the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy College Round Robin at CESA’s Mesa Soccer Complex in Greenville that will feature Division I and II teams from across the area. The opponents for the day will be determined closer to the day of the tournament.
Anderson’s spring slate comes to close on April 5 when its hosts North Greenville at 11 a.m. The Crusaders finished the year 7-10 overall and were eliminated from the Conference Carolinas Tournament by Barton in the opening round.
Following the spring schedule, the team welcomes past alumni to Trojan Stadium for the second annual Alumni Game. The festivities are set to begin at 2 p.m.
