ANDERSON, S.C. – In the first Basford Division II Region 2 rankings of 2014, sophomore Zak Hale was ranked fifth at 133, while junior Sean Turner was slotted seventh at 149 as Anderson University wrestling moved down a position from 12th to 13th in the team standings, released on Wednesday.
Hale (133) enters Anderson’s 2014 schedule with a 7-3 record, as the sophomore has rattled off seven straight victories, including four over Division I opponents. For the season, Hale has four wins by major decision, a pin, a decision and a win by forfeit. Hale is currently a win behind teammate Zane Newton (157) for the most victories on the team.
Turner, a junior from Monroe, Mich., has notched three straight wins at 149 after beginning the year with a loss to Aaron Walker of The Citadel. Following the setback, Turner picked up back-to-back decisions over opponents from Division I Davidson and George Mason to close his 2013 slate after a 25-9 technical fall at St. Andrews. Overall, Turner is 3-1 on the year.
The Trojans look to improve on their regional ranking when they return to the mats on Friday for the annual Virginia Duals. Anderson’s tournament campaign begins at 11 a.m. against Stevens Tech.
