ANDERSON, S.C. – Women’s basketball junior guard Sierra Simpson and men’s basketball senior guard Chandler Hash have been named to the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard for their outstanding performances in the month of December.
For the month of December, Simpson averaged a team-high 9.0 points per game, to go along with a team-high 20 assists and 23 rebounds. Despite a narrow 56-55 setback to Wingate to open Anderson’s December schedule, Simpson recorded her first double-double of the season and second of her career with 13 points and 11 rebounds, headlining her month.
For the year, Simpson ranks in the top 30 within the South Atlantic Conference in six offensive categories, including leading the league in assists per game (5.5). Simpson’s steals per game average of 2.2 slots her third in the conference, while her 1.7 assist-to-turnover ratio puts her fifth. Despite her 5-foot-6 frame and playing the point guard position, Simpson ranks 19th in rebounds per game, averaging 5.9.
Hash helped lead the Trojan men’s basketball team to a 3-2 record in December, averaging a team-high 22 points per contest on the strength of 45.2 percent shooting from the field. The 6-foot guard was also 39-of-43 (90.7 percent) from the charity stripe during the month and averaged 4.2 rebounds per game. He currently paces the SAC in scoring (22.9 ppg.) and ranks sixth in free throw accuracy (87.8 percent).
With his two free throws late in the first half of the win over Winston Salem State on Dec. 21, the Greer, S.C. native scored his 1,000th career point, becoming just the 11th men’s basketball player in school history to reach the plateau. Hash is currently 10th on AU’s all-time scoring list with 1,032 points.
Each month, one male and one female student-athlete or teams are honored as the Anderson Federal Credit Union Gold Standard Performers of the Month for his or her performance in competition, in the classroom, or in the community.
