HALE COMPETES AT NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Anderson University 133-pounder Zak Hale earned a win and moved into to the quarterfinals of the 2013 NCAA Championships before dropping a pair of decisions Friday at the CrossPlex Complex.

Hale, who qualified for the championships with a third-place finish at the Super Region I Championships nearly two weeks ago, moved into the quarterfinals of the championship bracket with an impressive 8-7 first-round decision past two-time national champion Trevor Franklin of Upper Iowa.

He squared off against Central Oklahoma’s Casey Rowell in the quarterfinal round on Friday night, but suffered a 10-7setback to Rowell and dropped into the consolation bracket. Hale was pinned by Southwest Minnesota State’s Justin Reinsma 38 seconds into their bout, as they battled for third place in the standings.
