TROJAN WRESTLERS COMPETE AT NEWBERRY OPEN

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Four Anderson University freshmen wrestlers earned wins Saturday at the Newberry Open.

Kevin Johnson defeated Brewton-Parker’s Tre Horton, 17-4, in their opening round 157-pound bout, then Johnson defeated Chattanooga’s Parker Smith before falling, 5-1, to Cumberland’s Michael Gonzalez. Johnson was pinned by Newberry’s Michael Swindell at the 2:44 mark of their wrestleback matchup.

At 174 pounds, Robbey Pye fell to Terrence Zaleski before pinning Limestone’s Seth Swoope in the wrestleback before dropping a 10-0 decision to King College’s Trevor Wentt.

Scott Richardson pinned Belmont-Abbey’s Jason Gulotta at the 4:40 mark of their 197-pound bout before dropping a 7-4 decision to King’s Roy Daniels.

Anderson’s Greg Williams blanked Limestone’s Eric Rholetter, 11-0, at 125 pounds before falling to Limestone’s Brandon Harrison. Williams recorded a 7-2 win past Limestone’s Jake Britt before dropping a 15-0 decision to King’s Jerrelle McCabe.    

The Trojans return to action Friday at Shippensburg State.
