TROJAN GRAPPLERS STUMBLE AT NO. 13 UNC PEMBROKE

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Freshmen Greg Williams and Zak Hale each posted early wins, but the Anderson wrestling team fell, 42-10, to 13th-ranked UNC Pembroke in the annual Battle for the Belt Friday night at the English E. Jones Center.

Anderson slipped to 4-15 on the season, while UNC Pembroke improved to 7-6 by winning its seventh consecutive match versus the Trojans in the regional rivalry.

Williams put the Trojans on top early by pinning the Braves’ Dylan Bernier midway through the second period of their 125-pound bout, while Hale earned a major decision by blanking UNC Pembroke’s Jake Smith, 13-0, at 133 pounds.

But the Braves rallied from the 10-0 deficit by claiming the remaining eight bouts.

Anderson will get back on the mats quickly, as the Trojans are scheduled to compete in the Newberry Open on Saturday.
