ANDERSON COMEBACK FALLS SHORT
AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State survived a second-half comeback by Anderson University to beat the Lady Trojans 65-62 Sunday afternoon at the Christenberry Fieldhouse. "We're disappointed with the loss," said Anderson head coach Jeff Dow. "I thought we had an excellent opportunity to beat a Peach Belt team on their home floor. I was happy with our response in the second half, especially after we played so poorly in the first half. We still had our chances." Anderson trailed 35-24 at the half but used a 15-0 run to take a 44-42 lead with 10:58 to play. The game was tied at 59 with 2:54 to play before Augusta State took the lead for good. Anderson trailed by two -- 64-62 -- with 12 seconds remaining but missed the front end of a one-and-one and two field goal attempts before the Jaguars took possession to end Anderson's valiant comeback. The victory, Augusta State's fourth straight, improves the Lady Jaguars to 6-2. The loss ends Anderson's four-game winning streak and drops the Lady Trojans to 7-2. "They shot 10 more free throws than we did because we were late or out of position," Dow said. "We committed a lot of senseless fouls. The foul trouble really affected our rotations." Anderson was led by Keana Boyd with a career-high 30 points. Boyd, a sophomore from Newberry, was 7-for-12 from behind the arc. Latrice Thomas chipped in 11 points for Anderson. Jasmine Godwin paced ASU with 11 points and Tracey Paschal added 10. Even though she was saddled with foul trouble, Anderson's Nikki Anthony grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Anderson's next game is Wednesday at Converse. Box: Augusta State 65, Anderson 62 Anderson University Women's Basketball Statistics
