Big Week for JV Men's BasketballNovember 21, 2008
This has been a big week for the JV men’s Basketball team with two home games in the Abney Center on Monday and Thursday. On Monday the team played Oxford College, a junior college on the out skirts of Atlanta, and WON!! This win marks the first for the program in recent memory. The Trojan attack was led by a strong 20 point performance from Andrew Driver followed by a steady 11 point performance from Tony Strange. On Thursday night, the great crowds that have been showing up to support this hardnosed bunch was greeted to another gritty performance. They played Catawba Valley Community College out of Catawba, North Carolina. Catawba, a traditional power in their region has had their way with the JV team in previous meetings. Even though, Catawba ended up winning the game, they had to earn it. The crowd was continually entertained by the scrappy nature of our JV team… diving for loose balls and chasing down rebounds over much larger players from Catawba. Ryan Freeman gave another steady performance at the point guard position penetrating the defense and finding his team mates which helped lead to 10 made three point field goals. Three of those ten coming from the hot hand of Derrik Driver. This bunch is proving to be worth the fan fare they are receiving. Their next game will be here in the Abney Center on the 24th of November at 7pm vs Truett-McConnell College.
