Trojans Take Down Queens, 82-74January 14, 2009
ANDERSON, S.C. -- Kevis Cornwell, Stephen Cobb, and Brandon Young
combined for 56 points to lead Anderson University to an 82-74 victory over Queens University of Charlotte in a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 6-7 overall and 4-2 in the conference, took the lead at the 8:06 mark of the first half and never trailed again. The Trojans built a nine-point lead late in the first half, led 36-28 at the break, and led by as many as 12 points in the second half. Queens, 2-10 and 1-4, got within four points -- 50-46 -- with 11:06 remaining but could get no closer. Anderson, which has won three of its last four, was led by Cornwell with 20 points, Cobb with 19 points, Young with 17 points, and Jarret Johnson with 10 points. Cornwell was 7-for-13 from the field, and Cobb was 6-for-10. Young, Cobb, and Johnson all made two 3-point goals apiece. Cobb also led the Trojans in rebounding with 11. The Royals were led by Daniel Bailey with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Sean Eads added 13 points, and Patrick Fox chipped in 11 for the Royals. Eads also had seven of Queens' 13 assists and four the Royals' eight steals. Anderson scored 22 points off 18 Queens turnovers, and the Trojans had 19 second-effort points. Queens shot 50 percent in the second half and 45 percent for the game, while Anderson shot 47 percent in the first half and 43 percent for the game. Anderson will visit St. Andrews Presbyterian Saturday afternoon.
