Anderson Takes Off In Second Half

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson University opened the second half with a 23-4 run and went on to post a 74-60 victory over Lees-McRae in a Conference Carolinas game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference, trailed 35-33 at the half after blowing a seven-point lead in the final 4:23 of the first period. But Anderson came out firing in the second half. The Trojans went on a 12-2 run to open the second half for a 45-37 lead with 15:19 to play. Kevis Cornwell scored six points during the run. After a basket by the Bobcats, Anderson reeled off 12 more points for a 56-39 lead with 13:14 left. Stephen Cobb fueled the second 12-point run with two 3-point baskets. A putback by Jarret Johnson at the 8:21 mark gave Anderson its largest lead of 19 -- 63-44. Lees-McRae tried to crawl back in the game, but the Bobcats got no closer than eight points the rest of the way. Anderson was led by Cobb and Cornwell with 16 points apiece. Johnson added 13 and Young tallied 10 for the Trojans, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Johnson also had a team-high seven rebounds and four steals. Lees-McRae, 0-5 and 0-2, was led by Nick DeSchepper with 16 points, and Modestas Riauka and Raysean Hairston with 13 points apiece. Anderson shot 46 percent from the field to 40 percent for Lees-McRae. Anderson scored 21 points off 16 Lees-McRae turnovers.
