Taylor Named Head Men's Basketball Coach

ANDERSON, S.C. – Jason Taylor, assistant coach for the Anderson University men’s basketball program for the past three seasons, has been elevated to head coach, AU athletic director Bobby Beville announced Wednesday afternoon. “Jason has worked very hard and has been very dedicated to our men’s basketball program for the last three years,” Beville said. “He impressed the search committee with his plans for the program and his vision for the future. We believe Jason is a good fit for Anderson University.” Taylor replaces Doug Novak, who resigned in late April join the basketball staff at The Citadel. Taylor, a 27-year-old native of Clarkrange, Tenn., came to Anderson in 2003 after two years at Roane State (Tenn.) Community College. “I want to thank Bobby Beville, the members of the search committee, and President (Evans P.) Whitaker for showing confidence in me to do this job,” Taylor said. “I also would like to thank Coach Novak and his family for all of their support. This is a great opportunity. I am so thankful and blessed to have this opportunity.” Taylor, who played college basketball at Aquinas College in Nashville, Tenn.; Roane State, and Jacksonville (Ala.) State, inherits a roster with four returnees and eight incoming freshmen. Taylor has an associate of sciences degree from Roane State and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Jacksonville State “I understand what is expected here and I look forward to the challenge,” he said. “All of the feedback from the signees has been positive. We can win games and championships at Anderson with a style of play that our fans will enjoy and the University can be proud of. I also want our team to be very active in the Anderson community.” As an assistant at Anderson, Taylor’s duties included scheduling, recruiting, conducting off-season workouts, directing the weight training program, and directing Anderson’s junior varsity program. “This is a special place,” Taylor said. “I’m happy I can be here to contribute.”
