Coker's Late Free Throws Beat Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Coker made six free throws in the final 1:19 to pull out a 73-67 victory over Anderson University in a CVAC men's game Monday night. The game featured 18 lead changes and 10 ties. Anderson led by eight -- 33-25 -- in the first half and by two -- 36-34 -- at the break. After a back-and-forth second half, Coker's Ryan Fulwood made two free throws to give the Cobras a 69-67 lead with 35 seconds remaining. Coker made four more free throws to seal the victory. With the game tied at 67, Anderson had a chance to take the lead but Ronald Bowers missed a 3-point shot with 42 seconds left. Coker's Johnny Jackson led all scorers with 19 points. Michael Pierce added 12 for the Cobras. J.R. Howell, who was 4-for-8 from behind the arc, led Anderson with 16 points. He was followed by Ronald Bowers with 15, Tariq Naqqash with 14, and O'Tey Sellers with 11. Anderson was 13-for-32 from behind the arc. In addition to Howell's four treys, Naqqash and Bowers made three apiece. The Cobras, who were 24-for-27 from the line, outscored the Trojans by 18 points at the stripe. Coker won the boards, 39-28. Jackson had a game-high nine rebounds. Anderson shot 44 percent from the field to Coker's 39 percent. Coker is now 6-19, 5-14. The loss drops Anderson to 6-19, 4-15.
