Saints Hang On To Beat Anderson, 75-70

ANDERSON, S.C. – Marquintus Jones scored 18 points and Andre Coleman added 15 points to lead Limestone to a 75-70 victory over Anderson University in a CVAC men’s game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Limestone, 12-12 overall and 10-7 in the CVAC, led by as many as 15 points in the second half, but Anderson rallied in the final seven minutes to pull within three points with 38 seconds remaining and two points with 12 seconds left. Anderson, 5-18 and 3-14, was led by Ronald Bowers and Tariq Naqqash, who both came off the bench to score 16 points and 14 points, respectively. Bowers also had a team-high eight rebounds. Limestone led 36-27 at the half and built its lead to 15 – 61-46 – with 7:15 to play. From that point, the Trojans went on a 15-5 run to cut the Saint lead to 65-61 with 1:58 left. Alfred Boykin, who finished with 11 points, and Bowers capped the run with a pair of 3-point goals. Another 3-point goal by Bowers cut the Saint lead to 67-64 with 38 seconds to play. But the Saints made 10 free throws in the final 55 seconds to hang on for the victory. Anderson got within two – 72-70 – with 12 seconds remaining, but two free throws by Jones put the game out of reach. Limestone shot 54 percent in the first half and 49 percent for the game. Anderson finished the game at 40 percent. Anderson, which committed just six turnovers, scored 20 points off 14 Limestone turnovers. Jones had six of Limestone’s 18 assists.
