Anderson Rallies To Beat Erskine, 67-62

DUE WEST, S.C. – Anderson University rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit to beat Erskine College 67-62 in a CVAC men’s game Monday night at the Galloway Center. Anderson, 5-17 overall and 3-13 in the CVAC, snapped a seven-game losing streak. The loss drops Erskine to 9-14, 6-10. Erskine scored at blistering pace in the first half. At one point, the Flying Fleet scored on 10 straight possessions and made 10 shots in a row, including six 3-point goals. The Fleet was 16-for-22 from the field in the first half. Anderson trailed 40-28 at the half but used a 10-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half to get back into the game. Anderson finally managed to tie the game at 47 with 10:10 remaining on back-to-back treys by John LeSueur and Tariq Naqqash. After another tie at 51, Craig Williams scored an inside basket and converted a three-point play to give Erskine a 56-51 lead with 5:18 left. But Anderson went on a 11-3 run to take a 62-59 lead with 1:13 to play. Consecutive treys by O’Tey Sellers and J.R. Howell capped the run gave the Trojans the lead for good. With just two team fouls 19 minutes into the second half, Erskine was forced to foul quickly in the final minute. Anderson sealed the victory by making five of six free throws in the final 34 seconds. Anderson was led by Sellers with 20 points. He was followed by LeSueur, Howell, and Alfred Boykin with 10 points apiece. Reed Long was Erskine’s leading scorer with 17 points. Williams finished with 16. Erskine shot 55 percent from the field, while Anderson shot 44 percent. Anderson was 13-for-25 from behind the arc. Sellers made four treys for the Trojans.
