Mount Olive Makes Late Run To Beat Anderson, 93-79February 4, 2006
ANDERSON, S.C. – Mount Olive snapped a tie at 65 with a 13-2 run and went to beat Anderson University 93-79 in a CVAC men’s game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Mount Olive, 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the CVAC, led 47-42 at the half and managed to hang on to the lead until a basket by John LeSueur tied the game at 65 with 9:30 to play. From that point, Mount Olive’s Chris Bartley scored eight of his team’s next 13 points to give the visiting Trojans a 78-67 lead with 4:14 remaining. Mount Olive managed to push its lead to 18 – 90-72 – with 1:08 remaining. Mount Olive trailed just one in the game’s opening four minutes. Mount Olive’s biggest lead of the first half was 11 – 36-25 – at the 7:16 mark. Mount Olive, ranked No. 4 in the East Region, was led by Victor Young with 21 points and Elton Coffield with 20. Bartley added 17 and Elijah Rouse and Melvin Creddle chipped in 10 apiece for the visiting Trojans. Anderson dropped its sixth straight game to fall to 4-16, 2-12. The home-standing Trojans placed four players in double figures – Alfred Boykin 19, LeSueur 17, J.R. Howell 16, and O’Tey Sellers 13. The Mount Olive bench outscored the Anderson bench, 32-12. Mount Olive shot 57 percent in the first half and finished the game at 55 percent. Anderson shot 50 percent in the second half to finish at 48 percent. Rouse also had six rebounds and six assists for Mount Olive.
