Belmont Abbey Hangs On To Beat Anderson, 72-63January 30, 2006
BELMONT, N.C. -- Steve Williams hit a key 10-foot bank shot with 25 seconds to go to help Belmont Abbey get past Anderson University 72-63 in a Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference women's game Monday night at the Wheeler Center. Belmont Abbey, 6-11 overall and 5-7 in the CVAC, was led by Greg LaVann and Damien Humphrey with 15 points apiece and Brooks Beard with 14 points. O'Tey Sellers led Anderson, 4-14 and 2-10, with 17 points. Williams' bank shot gave the Crusaders a 68-63 lead. After Anderson failed to score, a technical was called on the Anderson bench. LaVann made both free throws and Maurice Jones made two free throws to give the Crusaders a 72-63 lead with just 2.7 seconds remaining.
