Erskine Beats Anderson, 68-58January 16, 2006
ANDERSON, S.C. - Erskine used a 15-2 run in the first half to break the game open and went on to post a 68-58 victory over Anderson in a CVAC men's game Monday night at the Abney Center. Erskine, 6-7 overall and 4-3 in the CVAC, trailed 10-7 at the 12:45 mark. But back-to-back 3-point goals from TJ Taylor and Matt Odom gave Erskine a 13-10 lead and kick-started the run that put the Fleet up by double digits. When the run ended, Erskine led 22-12 with 6:30 remaining in the first half. The Fleet led 28-16 at the half. Anderson made just five field goals in the first half and shot just 24 percent from the field. In the second half, Anderson six points three times but could get no closer. A 3-point basket by Alfred Boykin cut the Erskine lead to 61-55 with 1:13 to play. Taylor led Erskine with 15 points. He was followed by Jason Winecoff and Craig Williams with 12 apiece and Jay Waring with 10. Boykin was the lone Anderson player in double figures with a game-high 16 points. Erskine shot 54 percent in the second half to finish the game at 44 percent. Anderson shot 47 percent in the second half to finish at 37 percent. Erskine suffered just eight turnovers and averaged 1.13 points per possession. The loss drops Anderson to 3-10, 1-6.
