Future Trojan Shines in TuscaloosaJuly 30, 2014
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Harrison Kansol, an incoming sophomore to the Anderson University men’s tennis team, placed second in the doubles tournament at the 2014 Intercollegiate Tennis Association Summer Circuit held at the University of Alabama last weekend at Alabama’s Tennis Stadium.
Over 120 tennis players from across the region participated in the event, which featured a 64-person singles draw and a 32-team doubles draw for both men and women. The tournament also featured a singles and doubles consolation round for players and teams not advancing to the second round.
Kansol, who will be coming to Anderson from Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Ga., paired up with Southern Indiana’s Aaron Barris for the tournament and posted a 4-1 record for the three-day event. The tandem opened up play with a convincing 8-1 victory over Sam Lidikay and Yates Jackson, placing them into the winner’s bracket.
Following the triumph, Kansol and Barris notched an 8-6 win over Ian Melnik and Max Rebol in the second round, placing the duo into the Round-of-8. The pair followed up the 8-6 win with an upset 8-4 victory over the fourth-seeded tandem of Zach Wilder, who is currently on the Ole Miss roster, and Robert Mounger.
With four teams remaining in the doubles tournament, Kansol and Barris continued their winning ways, tallying an 8-7 (4) narrow win over Trey McCombs and Matthew Hill, earning a spot in the final.
In the championship round, the tandem played Marshall Sullivan and Austin Bates to a 7-7 deadlock, but their counterparts captured the tiebreaker (5), giving Kansol and Barris a second place finish.
Kansol looks to continue his success when he arrives on campus this fall, as Anderson begins its fall slate on Sept. 7 at the Kroc Center Tournament in Greenville, S.C.
