AC Comeback Falls Short Against Lees-McRae

ANDERSON, S.C. – Mike Schachleiter converted a three-point play with seven seconds remaining to give Lees-McRae a 69-65 victory over Anderson College in a CVAC game Tuesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the CVAC, trailed 62-43 with 9:13 to play, but a 22-4 run by the Trojans cut the Lees-McRae lead to 66-65 with 41 seconds remaining. Randy Javois led the Anderson rally with 10 points. Lees-McRae’s Henry Williams led all scorers with 25 points. Williams was 10-for-16 from the field and 5-for-7 from behind the arc. Aaron Dugger added 15 points for the Bobcats, 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the CVAC, while James Barbee and Schachleiter chipped in 10 points apiece. Javois led Anderson with 19 points and Aurimas Silys added 17 points. Led by Javois’ nine rebounds, Anderson won the boards, 34-25. For the game, Lees-McRae shot 55 percent from the field, while Anderson shot 49 percent. Lees-McRae outscored Anderson 27-9 from behind the arc. The Bobcats made 9 of 14 treys, while Anderson made just 3 of 13. Lees-McRae averaged 1.01 points per possession and scored 35 points off 21 Anderson turnovers. Anderson scored 21 points off 19 Lees-McRae turnovers. The Bobcats shot 61 percent from the field in the first half and took a 37-30 lead to the locker room. There were four lead changes and three ties in the first half. Anderson’s last lead of the game was 21-19 at the 8:39 mark of the first half. From that point, the Bobcats steadily built their lead until it reach 19 points midway through the second half. James Barbee finished the game with 11 assists and three steals for the Bobcats.
