Cason, Jansky and Martin Earn Academic All-District Honors

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson University senior Laura Jansky and juniors Bri Cason and Rebecca Martin have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District III softball first team for NCAA Division II, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon.

The trio has helped lead the Trojans (42-10) to yet another record-setting season and their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA Southeast Regional after claiming the league’s automatic bid by winning the SAC Tournament Championship last weekend. AU earlier claimed a share of the regular-season title.

Jansky, a native of Kennesaw, Ga., carries a 3.77 grade point average, while majoring in kinesiology. A fixture behind the plate, Jansky has started 158 straight games and 190 of 197 contests during her career. The 5-foot-6 catcher stands fourth in school record books with 121 career RBI and seventh all-time in school record books with 30 career doubles. Jansky ranks ninth in school history in slugging percentage and has posted a four-game hitting streak, three three-game streaks and four two-game hitting streaks this season, while recording five multi-hit games. She has committed just three errors this season and only 11 in 197 games behind the plate over her four-year career. Jansky is a six-time member of the Anderson University Dean’s List.

A native of Lawrenceville, Ga., Cason sports a 3.67 GPA, while majoring in education. She has been steadfast at third base, starting 107 consecutive games and 146 of 148 in her career. She posted a season-high eight-game hitting streak earlier this season, while also notching a five-game hitting streak, a four-game streak and three 3-game streaks, while recording nine multi-hit games. Cason leads the team with three triples this season and ranks fourth on the squad in walks and doubles. She is a four-time member of the Anderson University Dean’s List.

Martin, a native of Anderson, has played in 49 games this season, while starting 41. She currently carries a 3.84 GPA and is majoring in business. The 5-foot-9 outfielder boasts a career-best .328 batting average, which is fifth on the Trojans’ potent offense. Martin has slammed a career-best seven home runs this season, while posting a nine-game hitting streak, a four-game streak and a two-game hitting streak along with 11 multi-hit games. The sure-handed left fielder has committed just one error in 49 games and is a five-time member of the Anderson University Dean’s List.

First‐team Academic All‐District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All‐America® Team ballot, where first‐, second‐ and third‐team All‐America honorees will be selected later this month, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.

In order to earn recognition, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution and are voted upon by CoSIDA members. CoSIDA District III includes the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt Conference and Conference Carolinas.

Anderson will get back in action on May 9, as the Trojans will be making their second appearance in the NCAA Southeast Region Tournament. The NCAA D-II Tournament selections are slated to be unveiled on Monday at 10 a.m.
