Softball Remains Second in Southeast Region Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On the eve of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Tournament, the Anderson University softball team remains steadfast at second in the Southeast Region in the NCAA’s second Division II Southeast Region rankings, as released Wednesday afternoon.

Anderson (38-10), which claimed a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season title last weekend, while setting a school record for regular-season victories, held on to the second spot in the rankings, just behind nationally fifth-ranked North Georgia. Joining the Trojans in the regional rankings are fellow South Atlantic Conference members Lenoir-Rhyne, which dropped from third to fourth and Wingate, which jumped two spots from seventh to fifth.

Lincoln Memorial, which was not in the initial rankings a week ago, makes an appearance at No. 8 this week. Carson-Newman slipped one spot from ninth to 10th, while Catawba, which was eighth a week ago, dropped out of this week’s rankings after suffering a five-game skid to close out the regular season.

The Saints held on to the top spot for the second consecutive week, while fellow Peach Belt Conference-member Armstrong Atlantic State, ranked 18th  nationally in the latest NFCA Coaches’ Poll, moved from fourth to third, swapping spots with L-R. The Bears were ranked 12th in the latest NFCA Poll. USC Aiken and Georgia College, both from the Peach Belt, each slipped one spot to sixth and seventh, respectively in the regional rankings.

Columbus State, which was unranked a week ago, rounds out the Southeast Region rankings at No. 9.
The NCAA’s regional rankings are scheduled to be released weekly on Wednesdays through April 30, with the NCAA D-II Tournament selections scheduled to be unveiled on Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m.

In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with five more at-large selections.
