Men's Golf Finishes Ninth at Tennessee River RumbleApril 8, 2014
LOUDEN, Tenn. – Senior Sean Shelton paced the Trojans with a two-day nine-over-par 153, as the Anderson University men’s golf team wrapped up their regular-season slate by finishing ninth at the Tennessee River Rumble Intercollegiate, hosted by Lincoln Memorial at the par 72, 7,163-yard Tennessee National Golf Club.
North Greenville (286-301=587) nearly lost its opening-round 12-stroke advantage, but held off Walters State Community College (304-286=590) to win the team title by three shots. Lee University (298-293=591) dropped from second to finish in third by one shot, while the host Railsplitters (303-306=609) remained fourth. Lenoir-Rhyne (312-303=615) and Brevard (305-311=616) flipped spots, with the Bears taking fifth and the Tornados falling to sixth.
Trevecca Nazarene (314-310=624), the LMU “Blue” squad (319-306=625), Anderson (329-319=648) and the LMU “Gray” squad (335-315=650) rounded out the 10-team field.
North Greenville’s Tucker McDonald (73-71=144), who started the day five shots off the lead, rallied to claim individual medalist honors by one stroke over both Brad Hawkins of Walters State and Lee’s Taylor Davis.
Shelton (77-76=153) closed the two-day event in 21st, while fellow senior Arran Setro (84-80=164) finished 11 shots further back in 45th. Sophomore David Wachter carded a 21-over-par 165 and earned a share of 46th, with freshman Rob Warren (86-80=166) making the biggest jump by slashing six strokes off Monday’s opening round to finish in 49th. Junior CJ Messana (89-84=173) finished in 56th.
The Trojans return to action at the three-day South Atlantic Conference Championship, slated for Sunday through Tuesday at the Sevierville Country Club in Sevierville, Tenn.
