Box Score

ANDERSON, S.C. – After going down 2-1 in the doubles round, Anderson University men’s tennis was unable to recover, falling 6-3 to in-state rival Limestone Thursday afternoon at Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the setback, the Trojans drop to an even 6-6 for the season with South Atlantic Conference play on the horizon this weekend. Limestone, which entered the match ranked No. 30 nationally, moves above .500 at 8-7 on the year.

In the doubles round, the Trojans came away with one victory as senior Danilo Faria and sophomore Paul Michael Calhoun claimed an 8-2 victory over LC’s Benji Lascari Diaz and Giacomo Campus at the No. 2 position. The teams of freshmen Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas (No. 1) and sophomores Tomas Passalacqua and Inaki Iriberry (No. 3) both posted 8-5 setbacks, as the Saints took the 2-1 lead into singles.

Looking to make a comeback in the singles portion, Rivas and Iriberry claimed three-set triumphs, as Rivas knocked off Stefano Soares at No. 3, 6-2, 3-6, 10-5, increasing his winning streak to six-straight. Iriberry increased his own winning streak to three straight with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-7 win over Campus at No. 5, moving to 8-4 on the year.

The visitors clinched the match with two straight-set victories, a retirement and a three-set win for their eighth win of the season and second against a SAC opponent.

Anderson returns to action on Friday when it heads to Catawba. First serve from Salisbury is scheduled for 2 p.m.
