Trojans Capture SAC Victory over Lincoln Memorial, 8-1

ANDERSON, S.C. – Sweeping the singles round for the third straight South Atlantic Conference match, Anderson University men’s tennis knocked off Lincoln Memorial 8-1 Monday afternoon at Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the triumph, the Trojans move to 5-5 for the year and 5-1 in conference action, while the Railsplitters drop to 3-7 overall and 1-5 in the league. The win is AU’s fourth victory in its last five matches.

Anderson came away with two doubles points, as the freshmen duo of Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas fended off LMU’s team of Odhran O’Sullivan-Hamill and Guilherme Rocha at the No. 1 spot, 8-6, as the Trojans tandem has won three of their last four. Also posting a doubles win was the sophomore team of Inaki Iriberry and Tomas Passalacqua as they defeated Will Sparks and Stefan Hall at No. 3, 8-6. The 8-6 victory was the pair’s sixth win of the season.

In the singles round, the home side kept their winning ways alive, as Carracedo won by a Sparks’ retirement at the No. 1 position, as the Trojan was hanging onto a 6-3, 5-4 advantage. At No. 2, Passalacqua notched a 6-3, 6-4 victory over O’Sullivan-Hamill for his third win in his last four matches.

Rivas won his fourth straight match at No. 3 with a three-set (2-6, 6-4, 6-2) victory over LMU’s Marcelo Alvim, while sophomore Paul Michael Calhoun also went into three sets for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Rocha at the No. 4 position. With the win, Calhoun improved to 5-1 in his last six appearances.

Rounding out the singles round, Iriberry defeated Gabriel Martins 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5, while senior Danilo Faria conducted a comeback to knock off Hall 1-6, 7-5, 10-7 at the No. 6 slot. Faria has now won five straight singles matches.

Following the win, Anderson has a quick turnaround as it heads to the Tar Heel State for a showdown with Lenoir-Rhyne. First serve is slated for 3 p.m.
