Trojan Track and Field Readies for UCS Invitational

ANDERSON, S.C. – Following a 13-day layoff, the Anderson men’s track and field team, along with the regionally fifth-ranked women’s squad, will get back in action at the UCS Invitational, hosted by Wake Forest University, Friday and Saturday at the JDL Fast Track facility in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The two-day meet will be held at JDL Fast Track, which is a dedicated indoor track and field facility that opened two years ago. It houses a 200-meter oval track with a Mondotrack FTX surface, the same surface that was used at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Field event areas include two pole vault runways, two long/triple jump runways, one high jump apron and one throws area.

A trio of Trojans competed at the track shortly after it opened in 2012, with Matt Shaffer claiming third place in the men’s 800 meter run at the NCRUNNERS Elite Last Chance Meet, while Whitney Bishoff brought home second place in the women’s one-mile run. Lauren Sloan placed second in the women’s shot put.

The Trojans are coming off appearances in Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational, with junior Jill Baxter claiming seventh in the pentathlon. Sophomore Devan Fisher brought home fourth in the mile run, with freshman Mia Swiersz placing 12th in the 3000 meter. Newcomer Bari Robinson garnered 22nd in the 800 meter.
