Track and Field Completes Day One at Bob Pollock Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C. – Headlined by several strong performances, the Anderson University track and field teams wrapped up the opening day of competition at Clemson’s Bob Pollock Invitational on Friday at the Tigers’ Indoor Complex.

More than 20 schools are competing in the two-day event, including the host Tigers, N.C. State, Pittsburgh and in-state Division I teams Coastal Carolina, Charleston Southern and S.C. State. In all, more than 700 athletes are taking part. 

Junior Jill Baxter earned seventh in Friday’s pentathlon event, as she placed seventh in the 60 meter hurdles in a time of 10.81, while finishing fourth in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters. The Denver, N.C., native earned sixth in the shot put with a toss of 9.01 meters and garnered seventh place in the long jump (4.55 meters) before wrapping up with an eighth-place finish in the 800 meter run for a total of 2,483 points in the event. 

Sophomore Devan Fisher (6:16.86) claimed fourth in the one mile run, with freshman Mia Swierzs placing 12th in the 3000 meter run with a time of 12:32.75. Classmate Bari Robinson garnered 22nd in the 800 meter run by crossing the line in 2:26.61.

Junior Savanna Keese recorded a distance of 14.70 meters in the weight throw and finished 18th, while sophomore D'Yandra Morris was three spots further back in 21st with a toss of 14.33 meters. Freshman Megan Shahoud  captured 25th in the long jump with a distance of 4.86 meters.
 
The freshman duo of Thomas Garrigan (4:36.23) and Jesse Patrick (4:44.62) made their presence known in the men’s one mile run, finishing third and sixth, respectively. Westley Wilson claimed sixth in the 5,000 meter run in a time of 16:41.47, while freshman Ned Kennedy (16:54.60) brought home eighth.

Newcomer Michael Burch placed second in the 3,000 meter run in a time of 10:04.62, with freshman Caleb Knight earning 26th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.33. Fellow freshman Jonathan Shorter finished 30th by crossing the line in 57.24.        
 
The 800 meter run saw sophomore Joshua Visi-Clark notch 29th with a time of 2:04.45, with Garrigan (2:06.95) and Patrick (2:07.08) earning 34th and 35th, respectively. Malik Brown (9.75) and Shorter (9.81) placed seventh and eighth, respectively in the 60 meter hurdles.   

The event concludes on Saturday.
