Hale Ranked Fourth in Basford Rankings

ANDERSON, S.C. – Entering Saturday’s Super Region 2 Duals with an impressive 12-3 record, sophomore Zak Hale was slotted fourth in the region at 133 according to the latest Basford Rankings, released on Thursday.

After suffering three setbacks at the Virginia Quad Meet to begin the season in November, Hale has won 12 straight bouts at 141 with five victories coming by way of pin. The Shaftsbury, Vt. native is responsible for 61 points in duals for the season and has posted four straight pins in his last four bouts.

Hale, who moved up one position after being ranked No. 5 regionally in Jan. 8’s poll, is currently one of two Trojans to have double digits victories on the year as graduate student Zane Newton holds an 11-5 mark.

Junior Sean Turner, who was ranked No. 7 in the last poll, fell out of the top-8 after finishing 1-1 last week. For the year, Turner is 7-2 with two pins.

Hale will look to lead AU this weekend when the Trojans head to the Super Region 2 Duals at Newberry’s Eleazer Arena on Saturday. Anderson will face Findlay in its opening dual beginning at 9 a.m.
