Trojans Open CVAC Tournament Against Coker TuesdayMarch 1, 2004
ANDERSON, S.C. -- The Anderson College men's basketball team, coming off one of the biggest victories in the history of the four-year program, will play host to Coker in the first round of the 2004 CVAC Tournament Tuesday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 13-14 overall, closed the regular season with a dramatic 99-97 upset of Queens (N.C.) in double overtime Sunday afternoon. The Trojans fell behind 18-2 and trailed by six points with one minute remaining in regulation before rallying to pull off the upset of the Royals, who were ranked No. 8 in last week's East Region poll. The Trojans, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, are led by senior Joel C. Zimmerman, who is averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game, and freshman Chris Poore, who led the Trojans in scoring in all three games last week to increase his average to 13.0 points per game. Anderson was 2-0 against Coker, the No. 11 seed, during the regular season. The Trojans won at Anderson 67-63 on Dec. 6 and at Hartsville 75-60 on Feb. 21. The winner of Tuesday night's game will travel to Queens (N.C.) on Wednesday for the second round. The tournament semifinals and finals will be held at Erskine College Friday and Saturday.
