Mount Olive In Second Half Too Much For AC

ANDERSON, S.C. – Mount Olive College used a 24-9 run in the second half to open up a 22-point lead and cruise to a 92-72 victory over Anderson College in a CVAC game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Mount Olive, 20-6 overall and 14-5 in the CVAC, led 39-27 at the half, but in the first seven minutes of the second half, Anderson whittled the MO lead to seven – 50-43 – with 13:20 remaining in the game. From that point, the visiting Trojans went on a 24-9 run for a 74-52 lead with 6:35 to play. Anderson never got closer than 16 points in the final five minutes. Elijah Rouse led the Mount Olive run with 11 points. Mount Olive was led by Sean Barnett with 19 points, Elton Coffield with 18 points, and Rouse with 11. Coffield also had a team-high nine rebounds. Anderson, 12-14 and 8-11, was led by freshman Chris Poore, who came off the bench to score a career-high 28 points. Poore’s performance marked the second straight game that he has set a career high for points in a game. Poore also had a game-high 10 rebounds. Osvaldo Haynes chipped in 14 for the Trojans. Mount Olive shot 54 percent in the second half to finish the game at 51 percent. Anderson finished the game at 38 percent and did not reach 40 percent in either half. Led by Barnett, who was 9-for-9 from the line, Mount Olive made 25 of 27 from the stripe. Mount Olive, ranked ninth in the latest East Region poll, took control of the game late in the first half. Trailing 21-20 with 6:51 left in the first half, MO went on a 15-2 run for a 35-23 lead at the 2:06 mark. Barnett and Chris Bartley scored four points apiece during the run.
