Trojans Tame Cobras, 75-60

HARTSVILLE, S.C. -- Joel C. Zimmerman made five 3-point goals and scored 22 points to lead Anderson College to a 75-60 victory over Coker in a CVAC game Saturday afternoon. The victory moves Anderson, 11-13 overall and 7-10 in the CVAC, one step closer to locking up one of the first-round home games in the upcoming CVAC Tournament. Coker now stands at 7-16, 4-13. Zimmerman hit his first seven shots in the game and had 19 points in the opening period to lead Anderson to a 44-43 halftime lead. Anderson's lead at the break would have been much bigger if not for some torrid shooting by the Cobras, who shot 57 percent from the field and made 9 of 14 attempts from behind the arc in the first half. The second half was a different story. Coker made just six field goals in the second half, and Anderson managed to pull away for its second victory this season over the Cobras. Anderson's lead stayed in single digits until Kennedy Bass and Travis Tate both made 3-point goals to give the Trojans a 59-49 lead with 11:40 to play. A 3-point goal by J.R. Howell pushed Anderson's lead to 17 -- 70-53 -- with 5:18 left. The Trojans led by 19 points twice in the final 4:35. Zimmerman had three assists to go with his 22 points. Osvaldo Haynes scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, and blocked two shots. Chris Poore had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Coker was led by Jason Fulwood, who made 4 of 6 3-point attempts for 12 points and Rico Stewart, who added nine points and three rebounds in a starting role. Zimmerman finished the game with 22 points and three assists, and Osvaldo Haynes tallied 12 points, nine boards and two blocks. AC-Coker Box Season Statistics
