Trojans Continue Hot Shooting, Torch St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. -- Anderson College shot 57 percent from the field, 62 percent in the second half, to roll to an 80-61 victory over St. Andrews Presbyterian in a CVAC game Saturday night. Anderson, which has shot better than 60 percent from the field in three of its last four halves, was led by Osvaldo Haynes with 19 points, Kennedy Bass with 18 points, Chris Poore with 16, and Joel C. Zimmerman with 11. Haynes was 8-for-9 from the field and had six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Both Bass and Poore made 8 of 13 shots from the field, and Bass had a game-high nine rebounds. St. Andrews' leading scorer was Justice Graham with 13 points. Four minutes into the game, the Knights led 10-9, but the Trojans went on a 24-10 run during the next 12 minutes to take a 35-20 lead. AC scored 12 straight points to end the run -- three layups by Poore and two 3-point goals by Zimmerman. Anderson led 43-27 at the half, but a 26-15 run by St. Andrews to open the second half sliced the Trojan lead to 58-53 with 9:32 left. Baskets by Poore, Haynes, and Bass in the next two and a half minutes pushed AC's lead to 64-53 with 7:11 remaining. St. Andrews got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
