Trojans Shoot 62 Percent To Sink Flying Fleet

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson College shot better than 60 percent in both halves and 62 percent for the game to rout Erskine 76-58 in a CVAC men’s game Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 8-9 overall and 4-6 in the CVAC, outscored Erskine 22-4 in the first 11 minutes of the game and never looked back. The loss, Erskine’s second to AC this season, drops the Flying Fleet to 8-10, 4-8. Anderson won the earlier meeting in Due West – 56-49 on Dec. 1. Erskine shot just 24 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 40-14 at the break. Anderson’s largest lead of game – 32 points – came with 17:18 remaining in the game when Osvaldo Haynes made a free throw to put the Trojans ahead 46-14. Anderson, which averaged 1.27 points per possession, was led by Joel C. Zimmerman with 18 points and Kennedy Bass with 16. Zimmerman was 5-for-6 from behind the arc, while Bass made 7 of 9 shots from the field. Erskine’s leading scorer was Craig Williams with 13, all in the second half. Anderson forced 19 turnovers and scored 29 points off those turnovers. Erskine dominated the boards, 41-18. Erskine’s Matt Odom was the game’s leading rebounder with eight.
