No. 4 Falcons Heat Up In Second Half To Beat AC

ANDERSON, S.C. – Pfeiffer made shot 80 percent from 3-point in the second half to pull away and beat Anderson College 88-75 in a CVAC game Monday night at the Abney Center. The Falcons, 13-0 overall and 6-0 in the CVAC, trailed twice late in the first half – 20-19 at 6:26 and 23-21 at 5:47 -- but rallied to take a 40-34 lead at the break. In the second half, Pfeiffer steadily built its lead by shooting 54 percent from the field and making 8 of 10 shots from behind the arc. For the game, Pfeiffer shot 52 percent (13-25) from behind the arc. Pfeiffer’s largest lead was 20 – 78-58 – with 6:09 remaining. The Falcons placed five players in double figures. Anthony Williams led the way with 17 points. He was followed by Damien Argrett with 16, Kenny Mickens and Rico Grier with 13 apiece, and Joe Easley 12. In addition to his points, Grier contributed 12 assists. Easley was 4-for-6 from behind the arc. Anderson, 6-7 overall and 2-4 in the CVAC, was led by Joel C. Zimmerman with a game-high 18 points. Kennedy Bass added 17 and Chris Poore tallied 15. Anderson shot 54 percent from the field to 48 percent for Pfeiffer, but the Falcons averaged 1.26 points per possession. Anderson committed 18 turnovers against Pfeiffer’s relentless pressure, but the points-off-turnovers category was almost even – 14 for Pfeiffer and 13 for Anderson.
