AC Shuts Down North Greenville, 57-50

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson College set two single-game school records on its way to a 57-50 non-conference victory over North Greenville College Thursday night at the Abney Center. Anderson, 6-5 overall, set school single-records for lowest opponent field goal percentage (.239) and blocked shots (12). The previous low for opponent field-goal percentage also was held by North Greenville (.277 on Dec. 12, 2002). The previous high for blocks for the Trojans was eight against The Citadel (Dec. 4, 1999) and Mount Olive (Dec. 2, 2002). AC's Osvaldo Haynes had a record nine of AC's 12 blocks. The previous high for blocks by an AC player in a single game was six by Gary Bailey against Presbyterian on Dec. 2, 1999. Anderson was led by Chris Poore with 12 points, and Joel C. Zimmerman and Haynes with 10 points apiece. Zimmerman also had a career-high 13 rebounds. Poore was 5-for-9 from the field and made two 3-point goals. Trevor Boggs was North Greenville's leading scorer with 17 points. Rob Wilton added 10 for the Crusaders, 4-10 overall. The game was defensive from the start. AC shot just 38 percent in the first half but limited North Greenville to 23 percent. There were nine lead changes and six ties in the first half. The Trojans used a 7-2 spurt in the final 1:40 of the half to take a 29-25 lead at the break. AC never trailed again. The Trojans led by 10 twice in the second half but could never pull away. The Crusaders got within two points twice but could not overtake the Trojans. Led by Zimmerman, Anderson won the boards, 46-39. North Greenville forced 22 AC turnovers and scored 10 points off of those turnovers. The victory snapped AC's three-game losing streak and avenged a November loss to North Greenville in Tigerville.
