ROCK HILL, S.C. – Anderson University volleyball middle blocker Hailey Pittman has been named the South Atlantic Conference l Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Monday morning.
Pittman recorded 34 kills (4.25 k/s) and committed just four attack errors for an impressive .417 attack percentage on the weekend as the Trojans earned a pair of South Atlantic Conference victories and moved into a tie for second place in the league.
The 5-foot-11 middle blocker also added 10 digs and seven total blocks as AU snapped a nine-match skid at the hands of Lincoln Memorial by rallying past the Lady Railsplitters in five sets, then blanking Carson-Newman, 3-0, for the third consecutive time.
The junior from Orlando, Fla. tallied a career-high 24 kills on a season-best .408 attack percentage and added five block assists versus LMU, while adding 10 kills (.435 attack percentage) and a pair of block assists against C-N. She currently ranks seventh in the SAC in kills per set.
“We are honored that Hailey has been selected as the Player of the Week,” said Anderson head coach Craig Mosqueda. “Hailey has had an incredible start to the year and has not let up. She has worked hard to be a more deceptive middle hitter as well as a better blocker and has already doubled her blocks per set. Hailey is an exciting player to watch and we are looking forward to an incredible year from her.”
Pittman becomes the first Trojan to earn the weekly honor since former standout Tiffany Rowe claimed the award late in the 2011 campaign.
Anderson visits Brevard Friday for a conference matchup before opening a four-match homestand on Tuesday. First-serve versus the Tornados is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Boshamer Gymnasium.
