Haynes Posts Career Highs To Lead AC Past Coker

ANDERSON, S.C. Ė Osvaldo Haynes scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds to lead Anderson College to a 67-63 victory over Coker in a CVAC menís game Saturday afternoon at the Abney Center. Anderson, 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the CVAC, trailed 34-31 at the half and fell behind by as many as six points early in the second half. But the Trojans hung in and used free throw shooting to overtake the Cobras late and pull out the victory. Haynes, a junior from Greenwood, was 11-for-13 from the floor and made his only free-throw attempt. There were 13 lead changes and nine ties in the game, nine lead changes in the second half. AC took the lead for good on a layup by Kennedy Bass with 1:59 to play then scored its last eight points at the free throw line. The Trojans were 15-for-19 from the line in the second half. For the game, AC outscored Coker by nine points at the free throw line. Travis Tate added 13 points and Bass chipped in 10 for the Trojans. Coker, 2-4 and 0-1, was led by Jay Farrow with 18 points and Jamie Jenkins with 14 points. Anderson shot 43 percent to 40 percent for Coker. After shooting 46 percent in the first half, the Cobras managed just 34 percent from the field in the second half. Rebounding was even at 36 apiece and both teams suffered 15 turnovers. Anderson led most of the first half before a 12-5 run by Coker gave the Cobras a 34-28 lead with 53 seconds to play in the first half. Farrow had five points during the run.
